This life is all about experiences, whether it’s a good time or a depressing time. Today I am going to talk about my favorite things. These will consist of my favorite movie, food, place to visit, vacation, etc.
To begin, my favorite movie of all-time is Robots (2005). It was produced by Blue Sky Studios and starred Ewan McGregor as the main character for Rodney Copperbottom. This movie holds such sentimental value to me because it was a movie that I watched all the time in my childhood. What intrigued me about this movie even as a child was the artistic approach. Each robot is a unique creation, made of nuts and bolts but also expressing an individual personality, and moving in a way that seems physical and mechanical at the same time. This movie looks happy, and the world looks like it belongs together. Rodney is born in Rivet City but dreams of making it to Robot City to meet his inspiration, Big Weld, who is a famous inventor. Rodney first displays his invention talent when he makes a helicopter robot that can fly around and help his father do his dishwashing work. His father eventually encourages Rodney to pursue his dreams and take the train to Robot City. The train, like in Polar Express just casually takes off and flies through the air, adding to my love for this movie. When Rodney arrives, he is greeted by, (and annoyed), by Fender, who is voiced by Robin Williams. He is shown around by being forced around by a series of ramps, pulleys, catapults, and sling shots which makes an AMAZING sequence. The person who took over Big Weld’s company is named Rachet, who is a tyrannical robot who uses his business to force all robots to upgrade instead of repairing them. Thousands of bots who can’t afford to upgrade are being labeled as “outmodes” and being sent to the scrapyard. Rodney has to find Mr. Big Weld and stop Ratchet before it’s too late. The story was kind of cliché, but it presented it very clearly. It was a “big corporation bad turned big corporation good as long as the people running it are good” kind of story. Speaking of that, I can only imagine how many “outmodes” got sent to the scrapyard because they couldn’t afford upgrades. The emotional moments hit home for me as well. It started off with Rodney’s father excited to be a dad, which I hope I can feel that same feeling one day. Another emotional moment was when Rodney was leaving to Robot City and his mom doesn’t want him to leave. It made me tear up in a rewatch because leaving home is hard sometimes, but that’s what you must do at times. It made me think back to first leaving for college and how my mother was very emotional, which also made me emotional. Overall, Robots was an enjoyable experience that I loved in my rewatch years later.
Next, my favorite food must be wings (flats of course). I am from Memphis, TN, so we love our wings and think we have the best. My favorite flavor is Honey Hot, but I also love Honey Gold, Hot, Lemon Pepper, and Cajun flavors. Every time I come home from college, my family tradition is to get a lot of wings and enjoy family time while eating on that. Some people say Crumpy’s or Wing Guru, but I prefer All-Star Wings or Adlines Hotwings.
Lastly, my favorite vacation was my family trip to Los Angeles. We took the trip in December around my birthday, and I had a blast. My parents rented a penthouse in the hills, and we also had a personal chef named Jerry who cooked good things for us. We also went to a Los Angeles Lakers game and that game was the last one in the Staples Center before it got renamed, the Crypto.com arena. We also went shopping at the Beverly Center and I met a lot of famous people. It was only a 4 day trip but I had a great time.
